My work with BrasilAgro began in January 2020, covering operations in Brazil and Paraguay. I contributed as a senior consultant to the development of a strategic safety plan and supported the implementation of the safety culture transformation program.
Improving safety performance and the goal of zero fatalities in Brazilian operations guided this work. It also involved incident reporting, golden rules, progressive motivation, and team development.
Understand events and make guidance clear
I supported the implementation of the incident reporting program. Reporting an event allows the organization to become aware of it. Attention to what is communicated matters because this information can help the company understand risks present in the work and decide what needs to be examined.
I also supported the establishment of safety golden rules and the progressive motivation program. For me, these tools require care with clarity: what the company expects of people needs to be understood by those in operations and those who lead them.
Prepare teams to use the tools
I trained the Brazilian Safety, Health, and Environment team in the use of the safety diary. I also delivered training to different teams in safety culture, incident investigation, risk perception, and behavioral observation.
These are responsibilities that require preparation. Investigating an event calls for care in interpretation; perceiving a risk calls for attention to working conditions. The use of a diary needs to be understood by those who will incorporate it into their activities. I see training as part of the responsibility of supporting implementation: people need to know what to do with the tools they receive.
