Bayer

Investigation, training, and safety fundamentals

Facade of the Bayer site in Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro, with the company’s brand

I began my work with Bayer in October 2019. The work included incident investigation, leadership training, safety culture assessments, and a hand protection campaign, with deliverables in Brazil and Latin America.

Investigate and understand the culture

I contributed as a senior consultant to an incident investigation process. I also conducted safety culture assessments at some Bayer sites in Brazil.

An investigation focuses on understanding an event; an assessment examines the organization’s safety culture. Both require care in interpretation. For me, understanding what is being analyzed is a responsibility that comes before deciding what to do about it.

Prepare leaders and address hand protection

I delivered training in safety leadership, risk perception, and behavioral observation for sites in Brazil and Latin America. Leaders need to perceive risks and understand how their decisions influence people’s work. It is a responsibility that requires training.

I developed and supported the implementation of a hand protection campaign applied at all Bayer sites in Latin America. The campaign aimed to strengthen safety culture and risk perception.

Hands are involved in so many activities that their exposure can become familiar to those doing the work. I consider it important to give this topic attention so that familiarity with a task is also accompanied by care regarding the risks involved.

Reinforcing safety fundamentals

I also supported the development of a 150-Day Plan to Reinforce Safety Fundamentals in Latin America.
