Construction tools and risk perception at wind farms

My work with General Electric began in February 2017, involving operations in Brazil and other countries. The work brought together construction safety tools, risk communication, and training at wind farms managed by the GE team.

A reference for construction projects

We developed the ToolKit de Construction Safety, a set of safety tools intended for use in GE projects.

When developing a safety reference, I consider it important to think about who will use it. The tool needs to help that person understand the care required in the work. In construction, this responsibility accompanies implementation decisions; having resources that support this understanding contributes to preparing those who deal with risks.

Communication that helps people understand risks

We supported communication with campaigns about hand protection and risk perception, as well as games. These materials provided different formats for addressing safety topics.

My concern with language is that it enables understanding of the subject. A communication resource needs to serve a purpose in learning: drawing attention to a risk, helping people reflect on it, and bringing the content closer to participants. The chosen format should serve this purpose.

Training at wind farms

Training allows time to be devoted to participants’ understanding and to the subject that needs to be developed. At GE, we trained teams from all wind farms managed by the company’s team in Programa PDR.
